Wrinkles and fine lines can detract from your appearance. Mature adults often lose fluid volume beneath the facial skin, the result being saggy dermal layers. Filler treatments can combat this by drawing fluid back to the supporting tissues.
Restylane-L® is an FDA-approved treatment filler that restores volume to the facial skin support tissue. This revolutionary filler treatment involves the injection of a special, non-animal product gel below the skin. The gel actually attracts water and other fluids to areas where the skin is poorly supported to treat those who suffer drooping eyelids, thin and sagging skin around the smile and lip lines, and skin folds near the nose or chin.
What Is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a compound that includes hyaluronic acid. This acid is a natural substance found in the human body. Unfortunately, many mature adults do not produce enough of this acid, as they get older. In the laboratory, hyaluronic acid is produced when a certain bacteria undergoes a fermentation process. The gel is thin and can be easily injected by a needle.
Restylane-L® is therefore quite different from BOTOX® or other injectable treatment compounds. The acid reacts with tissue and draws water from other parts of the body. This results in more volume in the treated areas. Fold lines, especially nasolabial folds, diminish in size and sometimes completely disappear.
Who Is A Candidate For This Treatment?
Anyone who has mild to severe wrinkling caused by a poor tissue support structure is a candidate for Restylane-L® volume-enhancing treatment. Individuals who have moderate lip line wrinkles can also benefit from this injectable filler procedure.
An In-Patient Treatment Procedure
After scheduling a consultation with the client and designing a filler treatment that targets the problem areas, the procedure itself is done at our Knoxville wellness facility. The injection sites are mapped, and the patient can receive the treatment gel without the need for a full facial anesthetic.
Restylane-L® treatment can be completed in less than one hour. After the procedure, the injection sites may swell or turn red, but this is normal. Some pain and soreness may be experienced, but swelling and discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. The gel binds with tissues beneath the skin layers. The increased volume is not permanent but can last up to five or six months.
Side effects of Restylane-L® are mild and include slight bruising, itching around the injection sites, and tenderness in the facial skin. These effects are temporary and normally dissipate after two or three days. In rare cases, a second session may be scheduled if the patient needs volume increased in several different areas of the face.
