There are many historic buildings in Knoxville that are steeped in history, and among them is the Kennedy-Baker-Walker-Sherrill House. This landmark lies along Kingston Pike and was previously listed in Knoxville’s “Fragile 15” of the most endangered historic landmarks in Knoxville. At Knox Wellness, we are proud of the rich history of our city and are excited to announce that we are relocating into the Kennedy-Baker-Walker-Sherrill House at the end of August. We will plan our grand opening at our new location in September.
Led by Dr. Chris Siano and an experienced medical team, Knox Wellness is your premier destination for natural solutions to health and wellness, including men’s and women’s aesthetics and complementary therapies.
The History of the Kennedy-Baker-Walker-Sherrill House
As the name of the house suggests, this historic landmark has passed through multiple generations and families since it was first built in 1849. It is thought to be one of few surviving examples of Federal architecture in Knox County and was first inhabited by James Kennedy and his wife, Jane Cox Kennedy. It then passed through multiple generations of the Baker, Walker, and Sherrill families until 2007 when it was sold to Andrews Properties, an out-of-state development company.
The house sits on 104 acres of beautiful Knoxville countryside and is among a few of the first homesteads built along Kingston Pike. This main thoroughfare for the city of Knoxville is an illustration of the early settlement patterns of East Tennessee. It began as a Native American trail and was developed over time by white settlers to connect Knoxville to what is now the city of Kingston. The Kennedy-Baker-Walker-Sherrill House is known as one of the antebellum houses of early Knoxville, and after an uncertain future for the structure, it will now be the permanent home of Knox Wellness.
