We offer two of the most popular and effective wrinkle-relaxing products: BOTOX® and Xeomin®. These injectables can make a significant difference in the appearance of expression lines and promote younger and smoother-looking skin.
Neuromodulators are injectable neurotoxins that work by relaxing the muscles at the injection sites to accomplish different cosmetic and medical purposes. While they are primarily used as a temporary yet long-lasting solution for expression lines on the upper half of the face, they can also accomplish different medical goals to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.
Once injected into the treatment area, they relax specific muscles for several months at a time. These FDA-approved injectables provide a safe solution for those who want to treat medical conditions like hyperhidrosis or smooth expression lines in one or more areas of their faces.
Both BOTOX® and Xeomin® are safe injectables that temporarily reduce the appearance of expression lines in multiple facial areas. Some of the most well-known treatment benefits include the following:
BOTOX® is the most commonly used and well-known cosmetic injectable available. It was the first injectable of its kind to safely treat expression lines and still is the only FDA-approved product to smooth expression lines in three different areas of the face. It can smooth frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. We can also customize a BOTOX® treatment specifically designed for men, called Bro-tox, to subtly smooth expression lines and promote a younger and well-rested-looking appearance.
Results appear within the first week, typically after three to four days. The best results are most visible 30 days after initial treatment. Depending on how quickly the body metabolizes the active ingredients in BOTOX®, patients can expect to enjoy results for approximately three to four months, and sometimes longer.
We can use both BOTOX® to treat hyperhidrosis, a condition that affects many men and women and causes profuse sweating, typically from the underarms. Injections into specific areas will block sweat glands to reduce total sweat, which can improve patient confidence long-term.
Xeomin® is another neuromodulator that works similarly to BOTOX®. What differentiates it from BOTOX® and other similar products is that it uses a highly purified formula with no added proteins to smooth the expression lines between the eyebrows, referred to as frown lines. Results typically appear within the first two to three days of treatment and last three to four months.
Most patients need one initial treatment to achieve the desired results. Regular follow-up treatments are necessary every few months, as these products do only deliver temporary results.
Many patients must temporarily stop treatments with neurotoxins for different reasons, most often before and during pregnancy and while nursing. Doing so does not lead to any negative effects.
Once you stop treatment, your expression lines will gradually reappear as your body metabolizes the product. When it’s out of your system, your expression lines will look like they did before the treatment. Once you’re ready, you can resume treatments to once again achieve wrinkle-free skin.
Patients who want to address visible expression lines, whether mild, moderate, or more severe, on the upper half of their faces make good candidate neuromodulators. Neuromodulators also provide a solution for those who have tried other treatments and anti-aging skin care products in an effort to reduce expression lines but haven’t achieved dramatic or noticeable results. While most patients qualify for treatment, some may not be good candidates for safety reasons.
Pregnant and nursing women do not qualify for treatment, nor do those allergic to any ingredients in BOTOX® or Xeomin®. We conduct pre-treatment consultations to learn more about each patient’s treatment goals, discuss their medical history, and consider any experience they have had with neurotoxins in the past to confirm treatment eligibility.
Not only do these products deliver a quick, minimally invasive treatment, but there’s also no significant downtime. Patients can expect to resume normal daily activities after their appointment so long as they are mindful of temporarily avoiding certain activities, products, and environments.
It’s important that patients keep their heads elevated for several hours after the appointment, avoid hot environments and strenuous workouts for the first 24 hours, and avoid touching the treatment site. It’s also recommended that patients avoid harsh topical products near the injection site for the first few days following treatment.
