Restylane-L Lip Injections for a Plumper Pout

Fuller, shapelier lips are the dream of many adults. Many of us experience a thinning of the lips as we enter into our mature adult years. The lip tissue doesn’t retain moisture as well as it once did, and the skin that borders the lips often becomes stretched as it gets thinner. The unbalanced look can negatively affect our appearance. Fortunately, there’s a non-surgical solution to the problem of tight, thin lips. Restylane® is an injectable lip plumper, and it contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that binds with water molecules and holds them in place. A specialized form of this dermal filler is Restylane-L®, developed to allow for lip injections with very little discomfort on the part of the client.

How Dermal Fillers Work

Restylane® is one of several dermal fillers that add volume to the area where it is injected. Restylane-L® is so-named because it contains lidocaine, a mild anesthetic that affects the nerve endings in the area where the gel is injected. Restylane® is formulated by mixing tiny particles with a thick fluid. When skillfully injected into certain areas, the gel immediately begins to attract water. The particles bind with the water, and the water molecules in turn bind with other water molecules.

The effect of water buildup results in a raising of the skin level. When the lips are treated with Restylane-L® lip injections, the lip tissue swells in the area where the gel was injected. The gel is eventually flushed from the body along with other waste, but the increased volume continues for several months.

During the Consultation

It’s important to consult with us so that we can determine if Restylane-L® is the proper treatment for you. If a simple volume increase is all that is needed to produce the desired shape and size of the lips, we may schedule a treatment session.

A Look at the Procedure

Injecting Restylane-L® typically takes only minutes to complete. After injected, the gel settles in beneath the subcutaneous layers and begins to attract water. The client will notice a slightly fuller pout even before arriving back home.

The lidocaine in the gel acts as a mild anesthetic, so we generally don’t need to use any sort of topical numbing agent. Normal activities can be resumed at once. The fuller, more evenly-shaped lips will also be smoother, and there will be fewer horizontal wrinkles in the skin just above the upper lip.
